If you have seen the sweet 16 TV show on MTV then you have to understand something before you get started. Understand that it is TV and not actually real. In other words, forget about your mom or dad spending anywhere near then kind of money on your party. Don't worry though, because in the real world you can throw the “Monster Bash†of the year and do it on the cheap if you are willing to bend a few rules and be creative.
Ask the Firemen at the Fire House
What ever you do try your best to find a venue to rent because a party at your home is just asking for trouble from your parents, particularly if something gets spilled on the carpet or broke. Stop by your local fire station and ask them for ideas about party venues to rent. Fire men know where everything in the area is and fire men also like to party, so they will have lots of good ideas.
Hire A Head Banger Band
To hire a good party band, go around to all of the local bars and ask them. They generally have bands on the weekends, so they should be able to help. Make sure to tell them that you want a band that is young guys not wrinkled old creeps. Call the band up and send your hottest girlfriends over to try to con them into doing the show as cheap as possible. Get their number and stay in touch, so they don't flake on you.
Make Your Own Snacks
Make your own food ands save tons of money! Use a blender, ice cream and milk to make simple and easy milk shakes. Throw in bananas for smoothies. Get a watermelon and cut it up into slices. Get some packs of deli meat and make your own deli sandwiches. You don't need to buy expensive rolls, just buy a few loaves of bread.
Crepe Paper and Balloons
For decorations go to a party store and get a bunch of balloons and crepe paper rolls. These are cheap and fun. Fill the balloons with air and fill the place with as many as you can fit in and people can have fun popping them. Use scotch tape to string the crepe paper all over the walls and ceiling. Another idea is to see if you can find some simple and cheap colored light bulbs to stick in the light sockets.
